2025 Awards

Progress and Achievement Award Winner

We are delighted to announce Lucy as this year’s winner of the Progress and Achievement Award. Lucy has shown exceptional dedication, resilience, and determination throughout her time at The Rowans.

Arriving in Year 10 unsure of school and her own potential, Lucy worked incredibly hard to grow in confidence, independence, and academic strength. She is now our top-achieving pupil in her year group and a role model to others.

Lucy has embraced a demanding mix of GCSEs and BTEC courses including Textiles, Child Development, Art, Photography, Food, and Travel & Tourism always approaching her studies with maturity and quiet commitment. Her positive attitude, kindness, and willingness to support others have earned the respect of both staff and pupils.

Her success is also a testament to the strong partnership between home and school, reinforcing the belief that Lucy is capable of achieving great things.

We are immensely proud of everything Lucy has achieved so far and have no doubt she will continue to thrive. Congratulations, Lucy, a truly deserving winner.

Headteacher’s Award

We are proud to announce Year 11 pupil Jessica as the recipient of this year’s Headteacher’s Award.

Jess joined The Rowans in January 2023 as a quiet but determined Year 9 student, quickly impressing staff with her positivity, resilience, and strong work ethic. Despite facing challenges, she has shown unwavering commitment to her learning and personal success.

By the end of Year 10, Jess had already achieved outstanding results, Grade 6 in GCSE Art, and Grade 7s in both GCSE Textiles and GCSE Photography. This year, she is completing another five qualifications, including GCSE DT, GCSE Food, BTEC Child Development, and her English and Maths GCSEs. Her dedication is clear in everything she does, from listening carefully to advice to regularly staying after school to improve her coursework (often competitively keeping one step ahead of her friend Lee!).

Jess embodies the very best of The Rowans. Her excellent attendance, positive relationships with staff and peers, and consistent hard work highlight the impact of her determination and character. She has become a much-loved and respected member of our school community.

Although Jess has now completed Year 11 and moves on to her next chapter, we are incredibly proud of all she has already achieved. With her attitude and drive, we know she will continue to succeed and we look forward to celebrating her many future accomplishments.

Congratulations, Jess.

The Connie Povey Award

The Connie Povey Award is one of the most cherished honours at The Rowans, created in memory of Connie Povey our much-loved “Rowans Princess,” head girl, ambassador, and inspirational role model. Connie embodied determination, creativity, warmth, and resilience, and her legacy continues to shine through this award.

This year, we are proud to present the Connie Povey Award 2025 to Emma

Emma joined The Rowans in Year 8 in June 2022, and from day one she stood out — full of energy, confidence, and a passion for reading that only grew stronger. Her enthusiasm for reading intervention sessions became a highlight for both Emma and Mrs Skinner, creating space for joy, progress, and growing confidence.

Like Connie, Emma’s journey has not been without challenges. Yet she has met every obstacle with perseverance, courage, and a determination to keep moving forward. She has matured enormously, worked hard toward her qualifications, and built strong, trusting relationships with key staff a testament to her emotional strength as well as her academic commitment.

As we look ahead to her results this summer, we do so with great pride and absolute belief in the success she has worked so hard for.

Congratulations, Emma. You truly embody the spirit and values of the Connie Povey Award, and we couldn’t be prouder.

The Alex Kelly Award

We are proud to announce Aaron as this year’s recipient of the Alex Kelly Award, an honour created in memory of Alex Kelly, a much-loved former pupil whose enthusiasm for cooking continues to inspire others.

This award is presented each year to the pupil who has made the most progress in Food Technology a subject Alex was passionate about. Aaron is a truly deserving winner. He has shown outstanding commitment, kindness, and determination in every lesson. His practical skills shine through in the high-quality, flavoursome dishes he creates, which have become so popular that staff have even tried to buy his famous breakfast rolls!

Although Aaron finds theory work challenging, he has approached the course with humour, resilience, and a willingness to always try his best, successfully completing the AQA course through sheer hard work.

We are incredibly proud of Aaron’s progress and the positive qualities he displays every day. He has real talent in cooking and a growing set of personal strengths that will take him far.

Well done, Aaron, be proud of your achievements and continue using your gifts to make a difference.
