Meet The Rowans AP Academy’s ESP
Who am I?
Hello, I’m Helen and I’m a Family Therapist. I enjoy walking my dog, Murphy. Murphy’s favourite toy is a tennis ball! People say I am kind and friendly.
What do I do?
I work with children, young people and their families to support wellbeing. I offer support around low mood, worries, understanding your feelings and how to manage these feelings.
Where will we meet?
Normally, I see children and their families in their schools, but I can also meet them online over a video or phone call.
What will we do:
- We will spend time together doing fun things you can choose, like drawing, playing with toys, or using games and puppets.
- I would like to get to know some of the things you like doing, about your family and friends, and what is going well for you.
- We might also talk about your worries and mood and how you might be struggling with this.
- If you are not sure about anything, you can ask me questions
What do Emotional Support Practitioners do?
Emotional Support Practitioners (ESPs) aim to improve access to mental health support for children, young people and their families. Using evidence-based principles, we provide low intensity interventions for young people experiencing common emotional wellbeing difficulties such as, low mood, anxiety and behavioural difficulties. ESPs run groups and workshops in educational settings for children and young people as well as parents and school staff. In some cases, we also offer one-to-one support. Most importantly, we will work together with The Rowans AP Academy to support children, young people and their families. We also work with school staff to help improve wellbeing across the school as a whole.
