Humanities

Students in KS3 have joined us from many different schools and had a range of different learning opportunities and experiences. We like to offer learning that is both informative and interesting that will develop their knowledge of the world they live in and where it has come from. Humanities plays such an important part in our students’ lives, from demonstrating the British Values to learning how to develop more in-depth skills and knowledge.

We like to offer a range of learning in lessons that meets the needs of all pupils. We intend on getting out of the classroom to experience history and geography in the real world at least once a year and encourage an open-minded approach to learning.

We are currently alternating termly between History and Geography, however constantly highlighting how one ties into the other. Learning is planned to be informative yet engaging with the opportunity for pupils to investigate their past along the way. We encourage our students to observe their environment and their individual impact on the world we currently live in.

Humanities currently is working on a three-year plan covering key topics, that have been devised to engage and excite our learners. Each term builds on prior learning and knowledge, whilst allowing pupils to catch up quickly should they join later. We have hand-picked the learning opportunities for our pupils to encourage a good foundational knowledge in humanities whilst also covering topics which best suit their interests.
