Personal, Social and Health Education

PSHE at the Rowans is a subject through which pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to keep themselves healthy and safe, and prepare for school, life and the world of work.

In line with Government requirements, our PSHE curriculum is divided into the 3 main strands of:

  • Living in the wider world
  • Relationships and sex education (RSE)
  • Health and wellbeing

Our PSHE delivery, is designed to have an impact on both academic and non-academic outcomes for pupils, particularly the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. KS3 and KS4 receive a well-balanced series of lessons and activities designed to enhance their understanding of life skills and beyond.

In KS3, we cover:

  • Transition and Safety
  • Developing Skills and Aspirations
  • Community and Careers
  • Identity and Diversity
  • Health and Puberty
  • Building Healthy and Respectful Relationships
  • Financial Decision Making
  • Drugs and Alcohol
  • Discrimination
  • Emotional Wellbeing
  • Digital Literacy
  • Peer influence and Gangs
  • Healthy Lifestyle
  • Intimate Relationships

In KS4, students complete 1 term per school year of PSHE lessons covering a wide variety of topics and life skills.

This includes:

  • Harassment and Stalking
  • Gambling
  • Drugs
  • Salaries and the World of Work
  • Intimacy
  • Consent

In line with the updated statutory PSHE guidance which needs to be in place by September 2026, we are currently reviewing and updating our PSHE curriculum to reflect the new requirements.
